Bangkok, July 11, 2024 – The Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO) has recently certified Thaicom’s ‘CarbonWatch’ Platform, Thailand’s first carbon credit method for carbon sequestration calculation in trees, utilizing satellite remote sensing technology integrated with artificial intelligence (AI), which is aligned with the Thailand Voluntary Emission Reduction Program (T-VER). The CarbonWatch Platform is part of Thaicom’s Earth Insights services, providing space-based solutions to customers. Following certification, Thaicom has partnered with the Mae Fah Luang Foundation to use the platform in community forests to propel Thailand toward carbon neutrality and net zero greenhouse gas emissions.
Mr. Patompob (Nile) Suwansiri, Chief Executive Officer of Thaicom, said Thaicom is very delighted to announce that TGO has officially certified the CarbonWatch Platform, the first method of its kind in Thailand under the T-VER scheme that calculates carbon sequestration in trees using satellite technology and artificial intelligence. The platform will enable carbon assessments in large forest areas to be more efficient, accurate, fast, verifiable, and cost-effective than traditional methods. This accomplishment showcases our ability to fortify our business milestones by leveraging space technology from Earth Observation Satellites, including geospatial data and satellite-image data combined with AI and ML to create innovative services for our customers. CarbonWatch is part of Earth Insights, Thaicom’s space technology services that serve customers’s needs in various sectors. Thaicom is committed to prioritizing sustainability and environmental, social, and governance (ESG), which has resulted in the company receiving the Commended Sustainability Awards as well as the SET ESG Ratings AAA in 2023. Following that, we will further implement the CarbonWatch platform in the Mae Fah Luang Foundation’s community forest and collaborate with other relevant organizations to propel Thailand towards a low-carbon society with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
