Thaicom Reports Q2/2021 Results

Nonthaburi, Thailand, 2 August 2021 – Thaicom Public Company Limited (THCOM), satellite operator, announced its financial results for the first quarter ended 30 June 2021.

Thaicom reported revenue from sales and services for Q2/2021 of Baht 796 million, down by 8.9% from Q2/2020 due to the decrease of revenue from satellite services resulting from the decrease of customer’s bandwidth utilization and price competition. Comparing with Q1/2021, the consolidated revenue from sales of goods and rendering of services slightly increased by 1.0%, due to an increase of conventional satellite utilization rate from foreign customers.

The Company generated a consolidated net loss for Q2/2021 of Baht 41 million. This decreased from the net profit for Q2/2020 of Baht 498 million, as a result of declining revenue, together with the recognition of the compensation income in Q2/2020. The profit dropped when compared with that of Q1/2021 of Baht 111 million due to an increase in legal expense and a decrease of foreign exchange gain.

The committed utilization for conventional satellites, Thaicom 6, Thaicom 7, and Thaicom 8, as at the end of Q2/2021 was 63.7%, slightly increased in comparison with Q1/2021 at 63.6%. For broadband satellite, the Thaicom 4, the utilization rate was 18.1%, also slightly increase when compared with Q1/2020 at 18.0%

Thaicom established TC Space Connect Company Limited (TCSC) with registered capital of Baht 100 million, wholly owned by Thaicom, to submit the application for bidding of the satellite orbital slot auction packages arranged by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on 5 July 2021 and was the only applicant for the auction. To promote the competition in the satellite industry, NBTC decided to extend the submission period for the auction to approximately one month and set the new auction date on 28 August 2021. The Company hereby confirms its intention to participate in the auction, believing that our competency and extended business experiences will enhance our competitive advantage both domestic and international, and is ready to support the Thai satellite industry and increasing demand on its full potential.

Lao Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (LTC), Thaicom’s telecommunication and mobile service provider subsidiary in Lao PDR, reported total mobile subscribers of 1.76 million, increased in comparison with the subscribers as at the end of Q2/2020 of 1.51 million.
